Celebrate ‘Learn to Homebrew Day’ in Utah

Learn to Homebrew Day 2019

Learn to Homebrew Day 2019 is Nov. 2.  It’s a day when thousands of would-be brewers gather to learn about the hobby of homebrewing.

In 1999, the American Homebrewers Association established Learn to Homebrew Day “to promote the most rewarding and delicious activity of all time — homebrewing.” The annual event takes place each year on the first Saturday in  November.

I began homebrewing in 2013 and, while I don’t brew nearly as often as some, I’ve brewed close to 50 five-gallon batches of beer. It’s such a great hobby.

Like many, I started out brewing with pre-built kits featuring malt extract. Not long after starting the hobby, I attended a brewing demonstration at Salt City Brew Supply. Ross Metzger, the shop’s co-owner, set up a kettle outside the store on a chilly October afternoon.

It hooked me. I’ve since graduated to all-grain brewing and am dabbling in creating my own recipes. There’s always something to learn when it comes to homebrewing. I think that’s what I love most about it.

With that said, here are a few Learn to Homebrew Day events happening this year. If you’re at all interested in learning how beer gets from grain to glass, you should definitely check out one of these demonstrations.

Hop Bombshells at Salt City Brew Supply

The Hop Bombshells, an all-female homebrew club, is conducting a brewing demonstration at Salt City Brew Supply on Saturday.

Brewers will demonstrate how easy it is to make your own beer. It’s a great chance to learn about the hobby and meet other like-minded individuals.
