It’s summer in the city. As Salt Lake flirts with triple-digit temps, the craft beer calendar starts to heat up as well. This weekend, our mugs runneth over. As I roamed around town and kept an eye on social media, I’ve counted no fewer than six craft beer-related events happening in the next few days.
You’ll have some tough choices to make. Note: It’s always a good idea to confirm event details with individual breweries/organizers.
I’m sure I’ve missed some events. If you know of a craft beer-related event coming up, please share in the comments or send me a note.
Shades Brewing: Kveik 3
The first two releases were a hit, and I’m sure Kveik 3 by Shades Brewing Company will be no different.
Nicknamed “tropical thunder,” this sour ale uses an ancient yeast strain (read all about it) that imparts fantastic flavors.
The beer features pineapple, mango, and guava notes. Brewers added lactose to increase the body and thickness. “It almost came out to be kind of like a milkshake-type beer,” Shades Brewing president Trent Fargher says.
Kveik 3 goes on sale at Shades Brewing (154 W. Utopia Ave.) starting at 11:30 a.m. on July 14.
Celebrate at The Garten
One of the newest community gathering spots is The Garten (417 N. 400 W.). Located next to Mountain West Hard Cider and Red Rock Brewery, The Garten invites you to “Celebrate Cider” on July 13. Festivities start at noon and all ages are welcome.
Don’t party too hard, though. There’s more fun to be had at The Garten on July 14 — the Ruby Summer Soirée.

Squatters Yard Sale
Ever wanted to get your hands on some authentic pub-used equipment? Now’s your chance. Squatters Craft Beers is holding a yard sale at its downtown pub on July 14 starting at 8 a.m.
“Get your Squatters memorabilia and come to the Squatters Downtown Pub this Saturday for a yard sale!” the brewery posted on Facebook. “We will be selling restaurant equipment, dining ware, old wood signs and other branded items to decorate your home with.”
SaltFire Sampling
SaltFire Brewing Co. (2199 S. West Temple), one of the newer breweries in the area, opened with a portfolio of four beers available in 500mL bottles. It’s since expanded its bottle offerings. And now, the brewery opened a tasting room. “You’ll officially be able to get your tastebuds on some brews before you purchase,” SaltFire noted on Facebook.
Sampling started on July 11 and will be available each day during regular bottle shop hours: Monday-Thursday: 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday: 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Saturday: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Eat Drink SLC
If you don’t already have tickets, you’ve unfortunately missed out on this year’s Eat Drink SLC at Tracy Aviary. It takes place on July 12 and is sold out. But you’ll definitely want to keep it in mind for next year.
Since 2015, Eat Drink SLC has raised thousands of dollars for various nonprofits. The culinary event features bites from some of Salt Lake’s finest restaurants and food purveyors. On the drink side, in addition to wine and craft cocktails, Mountain West Hard Cider and Red Rock Brewery are the event’s drink partners.
World Cup Final
France and Croatia meet on Sunday to decide the World Cup. The timing is a bit unfortunate — 9 a.m. on July 15 — for extensive partying in the Beehive State. But throughout the tournament places such as Proper Brewing Co. (857 S. Main St.) and Beer Bar (161 E. 200 S.), among others, have catered to the soccer-loving crowd.
Even if it’s too early to get a beer at kickoff, I’m sure festivities will continue throughout the day.
Beer Event? Let Us Know
We’re always looking for beer-related events to promote and write about. If your brewery, bar, or pub is planning an event, let us know so we can share the news. Thanks!
