Winners were announced at the 10th Annual Beehive Brewoff at The Bayou on Sunday.
Zachary Belles, who took home nine medals, including two gold, earned the title of Best Brewer in Utah. He and several co-brewers earned the Best of Show Beer for an English Barleywine.
For the Best of Show competition, judges whittled down 30 category winners to determine the three medalists.
Lauter Day Brewers, which earned 33 medals (10 golds) was named winningest homebrew club in Utah for 2018.
Three breweries — Kiitos Brewing, SaltFire Brewing Co., and Wasatch Brewing — are planning to work with select competition winners on “pro-am” beers, according to Mark Alston, the competition coordinator.
The 2018 edition of the Beehive Brewoff, an American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned competition, received a record 496 entries — 20 percent more than in 2017. More than 600 registered participants, judges, and stewards took part in the annual event, organizers said.
