Rising Hope IPA to Benefit Children Battling Cancer

Rising Hope IPA - Level Crossing Brewing
Level Crossing Brewing is brewing Rising Hope IPA to benefit children battling cancer.

Level Crossing Brewing Company is currently one of 34 breweries nationwide — and the only from Utah — invited to partner with Brewing Funds the Cure to brew Rising Hope, an IPA benefiting the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF).

The Foundation chooses one brewery in each state with which to partner, says Mark Medura, owner of Level Crossing Brewing in South Salt Lake.

“Brewing Funds the Cure brings the passion and creativity from the craft brewing industry to join forces with NPCF in raising critical funds for pediatric cancer research,” NPCF wrote in a news release.

Rising Hope: An IPA with a Purpose

Rising Hope IPA

Rising Hope IPA (6.5% ABV) is brewed with raspberry and blood orange purée, and Bulgarian rose water. It features ingredients donated by The Country Malt Group, Yakima Chief Hops, and Amoretti Craft Purée.

Level Crossing Head Brewer Chris Detrick says Rising Hope is unlike any beer Level Crossing currently offers.

It’s a fairly straightforward IPA with Azacca, Ahtanum, Loral, and Simcoe hops. But then it gets interesting.

“I’m excited to see how the fruit plays with the hops,” Detrick says.

It’s scheduled to be available at the brewery in 16-ounce cans on Oct. 16. NPCF will receive 100% of net proceeds from Rising Hope IPA.

Joining ‘Brewing Funds the Cure’

Brewing Funds the Cure came about after Florida’s Cigar City Brewing and Brew Bus Brewing collaborated to help raise awareness for the need for more pediatric cancer research. The Rising Hope project began in 2017.

The Brewing Funds the Cure collaboration raised $130,000 last year and has set a goal to double that amount in 2020, Detrick says. “It is a great honor to represent Utah in this fundraising collaboration.”

About Level Crossing Brewing

Level Crossing Brewing opened in March 2019. It earned a bronze medal at the 2019 Great American Beer Festival for its Suss it Out Rye IPA.

The South Salt Lake brewery continues to innovate via its popular Red Feather Small-Batch Series. The latest release is its Astro Shake Milkshake Double IPA.

As Level Crossing explains, “the red feather in our logo is a long-standing family tradition of always leaving an empty place setting” at the dinner table. It celebrates the tradition of hospitality and inclusion.
