Beer Tastings: Mango Berliner Weiss
Temperatures are nearing triple digits in Salt Lake City. It’s a good time to enjoy a slightly fruity, crisp and refreshing Berliner Weiss. Fortunately, one of the city’s longest-running breweries answered the call with its Mango Berliner Weiss.
Red Rock Brewing Co., which opened shop in 1994, consistently produces tasty beers. And the kettle-soured Mango Berliner Weiss is no exception. It pours a hazy straw/lemon color and features bubbles dancing to the top of the glass. The mango aroma and flavor is subtle, which serves the beer well. Sufficient tartness and hints of lemon and wheat round out this perfect-for-summer beer.
In its tasting notes, Red Rock explains that it “carefully designed (the beer) to quench and refresh on hot summer days, or to brighten life in the dark of winter.”
We’ll take its word for it on the winter part. Right now we’re more than happy to find some shade and cool off with a pint of refreshing Mango Berliner Weiss.

Red Rock: A Utah Craft Beer Pioneer
One of Utah’s early players in the craft-beer scene, Red Rock Brewing Co. consistently delivers tasty (and award-winning beers).
The brewery’s original brewpub has been a staple in downtown Salt Lake City since 1994. It’s expanded to include brewpub locations in Murray and another near Park City.
As with all local brewpubs in the state, Red Rock offers a variety of 4% ABV beers on draft. It also offers bottles with higher alcohol content, which can be purchased and enjoyed on-site at the brewpub or purchased at a variety of restaurants, bars, and liquor stores throughout the state.
Even more, Red Rock is somewhat known for its creative annual releases — dubbed the “Artist Palette” on its website — such as Rêve, Paardebloem, and Secale.
